GATE 2014 online exam software description

After declaring by IIT Kharagpur (Notification) that this year on-line exam pattern is  applicable for all branches, many students are tensed that what will happen in on-line exam. ??

So I am sharing some information about GATE on-line exam.

The structure for all papers in GATE 2014 will be similar to the papers of exam conducted in ON-LINE mode in GATE 2013.

The On-line Examination Test taking Software developed by the CP is demonstrated for the CH, GG and XE papers of GATE 2013 which are available on the GATE websites of the zones (e.g. www.gate.iitkgp.ac.in).


The On-line Examination Test Software includes the following features:

1. Keyboard will be disabled.

2. Login using a virtual keypad.

3. Display candidate details (including a photograph) after login for verification by the candidate and invigilators.

4. Then it display instructions to candidates after login and before start of examination.

5. The candidate will be able to retrieve instructions at any time during the examination as well.

6. The software will obtain concurrence of the candidate having read the instructions before start of examination.

7. Start and closure of the examination at scheduled time (candidates will not be able to start their examination even if they login before the scheduled time).

8. Display of remaining time available.

9. User can go to any random question in paper from start to last.

10. Viewing the complete question paper or a section in the case of sectional papers.

11. Display of a selected question with choices of answers for multiple choice type questions.

12. Display of a selected question and a virtual numeric keypad for numerical answer type questions.

13. Marking/unmarking a question (answered or unanswered) for review

14. Display of status of questions using different colors and symbols for all questions of the paper.

15. Switching between sections in the question paper for the GG, XE and XL papers.

16. Disabling of exit from test software for the period of examination.
